MAZHANDU Family Bus kills unidentified pedestrian woman

MAZHANDU Family Bus has hit and killed unidentified pedestrian woman as the
driver of the bus was trying to overtake another vehicle at the curve around
Senkobo area in Livingstone on Wednesday night, Southern Province deputy
commissioner of police Fred Mutondo has said.
Mr Mutondo said the fatal accident
occurred on Wednesday around 21: 50 hours after the driver Kabwe Salimu, aged 36,
of Lusaka was trying to overtake another vehicle at the curve near Senkobo
area.
Speaking in an interview in Livingstone,
Mr Mutondo said Mr Salimu had been arrested and he was currently in police
custody
“Mr Salimu was driving a Mazhandu
Marcopolo bus registration number ABK 8285 which was coming from Lusaka to
Livingstone when the accident happened.
As he was trying to overtake another
vehicle at a curve, he hit and killed unidentified pedestrian woman on the spot,”
he said.
Mr Mutondo said the body of the
unidentified woman, whose age is estimated around 40 to 45, was currently in
Livingstone General Hospital waiting to be identified by her relatives.
He said the body of deceased is lying in
the Livingstone general hospital mortuary and it is waiting to be identified by
the next kin.
Mr Mutondo said the police had since
charged the driver with casing death by dangerous driving and he would appear
in court soon.
The Commissioner said Mazhandu Family
Bus registration number ABK 8285 Marco polo has since been impounded at police
headquarters.
“Time and again we have preached on the
need for drivers to ensure that the road is clear before they overtake other
vehicles.
We have told motorists not to overtake at
curves because they don’t know what can be around the corner and now a life has
been lost through reckless driving”, he said.
The Mazhandu Family Bus in question has
since been impounded and it is currently packed at Livingstone Central Police.
