THE Livingstone Magistrate’s court has issued a bench warrant against the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Acting Director Chuma Simukonda for contempt of court by ordering police to disobey court orders.

CHALI MULENGA, Livingstone THE Livingstone Magistrate’s court has issued a bench warrant against the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Acting Director Chuma Simukonda for contempt of court by ordering police to disobey court orders. Magistrate Benjamin Mwelwa ordered that bench warrant against Simukonda be returned on February 2 this year. “I have therefore issued a bench warrant against the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Acting Director Chuma Simukonda for contempt of court which is returnable on 2, February, 2016,” he said. This is in a case in which Reuben Chikumba 34, a human resource officer at former ZAWA, assaulted his workmate, Nosiku Linenga 37, a public prosecutor. Facts before the magistrate Mwelwa are that on September 4, last year, Chikumba of Nottie-broad area assaulted Linenga by squeezing and pulling his private parts during a dispute and thereafter, allegedly facilitated his dismissal. In an interview with journalists shortly after the absolute discharge of NUTELAW, LIBES branch chairperson Joseph Kaira, 45, his deputy John Nkosi, 28, and Silvia Lutangu Long, 52, a union member. NUTELAW president Mathews Mwaba said that the situation at LIBES was aggravated by management’s failures to meet the workers and dialogue on their grievances. “As a union we are very grateful and it is good that justice has prevailed on our members. CHALI MULENGA Livingstone CHIEF NYAWA of the Toka-leya people in Kazungula district has hailed President Lungu for reconstituting the house of chiefs this year. The traditional leader has since urged chiefs who were nominated by others in the recent meeting that was held in Choma to share information because it was critical. Chief Nyawa said the traditional leaders should ensure that they give their reports to other chiefs in the province who will not be part of the debates. He was speaking in an interview in Livingstone that the issues that would deliberated upon were critical in the development of chiefdoms in the country. “I want to call upon the traditional leaders throughout the country, who have been selected to represent the interests of their subjects to ensure that they give feed back to the people, so that they can the developmental government programmes in their chiefdoms,” he said. CHALI MULENGA, Livingstone PATRIOTIC Front (PF) district Livingstone chairlady Florence Situtu has denied allegations that she has defected to the United Party for National Development (UPND) so as to aspire for a parliamentary seat on party’s ticket in Kazungula. Mrs. Situtu said she was a truthful and honest person if she decided to join another political party; she would have done so publicly. In a walk in interview, Mrs. Situtu said that there were people were spreading falsehoods that she wants to contest the Katombola seat in Kazungula on the UPND ticket. “I have not defected to the UPND, I am still a PF member, who is the district vice chairlady, it is sad that some enemies of the party are spreading wrong information about me,” she said. Three Livingstone Institute of Business and Engineering Studies (LIBES) lecturers have pleaded guilty to the charge of conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

This is in a case in which National Union of Technical Education Lecturers and Allied Workers LIBES branch chairperson, Joseph Kaira,45, who is also a lecturer for building and construction, his vice chairperson, John Nkosa,28,  a lecturer for business studies,  and Silvia Lutangu Long,52, also a lecturer for business studies and also a union leader are charged with conduct likely to cause the breach of peace 178 (f) of the penal chapters 87 of the laws of Zambia. It is alleged that on February 1 this year in Livingstone, the trio jointly and whilst acting together at LIBES did publicly conduct themselves in manner which was to cause the breach of peace.
