CHIEF NYAWA of the Toka-leya people in Kazungula district has hailed
President Lungu for reconstituting the house of chiefs this year.
The traditional leader has since urged chiefs who were nominated by
others in the recent meeting that was held in Choma to share
information because it was critical.
Chief Nyawa said the traditional leaders should ensure that they give
their reports to other chiefs in the province who will not be part of
the debates.
He was speaking in an interview in Livingstone that the issues that
would deliberated upon were critical in the development of chiefdoms
in the country.
“I want to call upon the traditional leaders throughout the country,
who have been selected to represent the interests of their subjects to
ensure that they give feed back to the people, so that they can the
developmental government programmes in their chiefdoms,” he said.
Chief Nyawa said there is a lot of information that is generated by
the house of chiefs, which in the past was not shared.
He said the people in rural areas do not have access to the
information from the house chiefs which must be shared.
“When the people have access to the information they will be able
make the right decision of even supporting the Government of the day,”
he said.
Chief Nyawa said he was confident that the chiefs that had been
selected for southern province would be able to share the information.
“I want to say that as chief in the province we are confident that
the traditional leaders that have been selected namely Chiefs
Sinazongwe, Macha, Mungailaand Hamusonde and Chieftainess Mwenda, will
represent southern province in the house of chiefs effectively,” he
said.
