No threat can draw me back- South PS
By Chali Mulenga
Southern Province Permanent Secretary Dr. Chileshe Mulenga says no
amount of mischief or threats is going to detract him from his job.
He was speaking to journalist after having a meeting with PF leaders
in Livingstone, he said that he not going to be detracted from his job
because the majority of the people in Southern Province are not
tribalists.
“You cannot accuse them of anything they are decent and hardworking
people who simply want a government which can make it easy for them to
make their livelihoods better,” he said
“And by the way am not going to ask His Excellency the President to
take me away from Southern Province because there is nothing which is
going to shake me
away from here because there is a job to be done,” he said.
He said that he has an ambition to make sure that the civil service in
Southern Province becomes the best civil service in the country.
“I am focused on getting the job done and the job which has to be made
is making the civil service in Southern Province to begin to work for
the greater view of the society in Southern Province,” he said
The permanent secretary said that there is need to transform the
entire civil service and wants to have a civil service in Southern
Province which is going to be an example for other provinces and that
was his hope.
“We have asked cabinet office to help us with the cleansing of the
civil service so
that it begins to serve the greater good of our country and have had
assurances that measures are being taken to make sure that our
disciplinary measures are much more swift than they have been so there
should be no concerns the people of Southern Province should know that
their civil service number one will remain firmly in place and be
focused to make sure that they get quality service that they deserve,”
he said.
He said there is need to serve the public and mind as most of these
issues are not coming from political parties well maybe from the
political parties but it’s from individuals.
He said that individuals that are disgruntled who want to cause
confusion and it also is from some people from within our provincial
administration.
“Unfortunately we have had a change of government and a change of
government has to come
with real change people have got to see that yes indeed there has been
a change of government,” he said.
He said people can only see that if there is a change in the way
government delivers services.
He said that since the PF government is focused and pro-poor it is
going to make sure that the public service operates in a manner which
is pro-poor.
“We want civil servants to treat members of the public with respect
and dignity. The masters are the ordinary people and the civil service
should just do things to serve its own individual interest,” he said.
He said Government through the public serve has got to serve the interest of
the great majority of the people and that is the job he is going to be
focused on
and no amount of mischief will detract him from that.
