Njekwa warns chief officers

LIVINGSTONE Mayor Aggrey Njekwa has warned the council chief officer that failing to follow a council resolution is dismissible offence.
He said as a result things are not moving in the city as in terms of development.
Speaking during the full council meeting, Mr Njekwa has taken to task the Livingstone town clerk Vivian Chikoti for failing to have information on her fingertips on what is happening in the council.
The mayor took task Ms Chikoti as she kept on referring to the chief officers to response to various issues that the councilors were raising.
Mr Njekwa said that Ms Chikoti should have had the information on the operations of the council as the council management always has meetings where such matters are discussed.
He said that is unfortunate that people do not seem to know what is happening and urged the council management to take stock of what was happening in the council.
Mr Njekwa said that as a result a lot of shoddy works had been done in the city as the council does not seem to know what was happening.
He said that the K68 million that is allocated to the construction of the to Mahatma Gandhi maternity wing in Dambawa central in Livingstone should be suspended.
He said that as result of the shoddy works that are happening the name of the councilor was being brought into disarray.
He called on the district commissioner to work with the councilor as they are part of the governing system.
Mr Njekwa expressed shock that it was sad at the council was just hearing about investigations that were going on by ACC.
He said that there is need to put our efforts together.
And Ms Chikoti admitted that the works that were done at highlands police post was shoddy.
She said that the tender committee will blacklist all the contractors that have done shoddy works.
She said that the contractors that are found doing shoddy works will be reported to the police so that the law can take its course.
She said that as a result of the shoddy works it makes the council look inefficient.
Ms Chikoti appeal to the council not to suspend the K68 million that was allocated to Mahatma Gandhi, maternity.
