Children with disabilities should not lose hope

By Chali Mulenga "A child with living with a disability is a gift from God and it is only the creator that knows the future of a child,” says Erica Kalipi a mother of child living with disability. Ms Kalipi a 20 year old mother two children says she is amazed with the things that she has learned in caring for her son.   The confident mother states in the amazing words that it is only God the creator who knows why some of the things that people go through happen. repackage health information- ZCCP

From CHALI MULENGA in Livingstone   Zambia Centre for Communication Programmes (ZCCP) says repackaging of health messaging when communicating to particular audiences is critical.    ZCCP executive director, Johans Mtonga said the way the health messages were being packaged was a challenge as the intended audiences were sometimes left out. “The packages of health information for target audiences between 12 and 18, the packaging is for them to avoid unprotected sex but they are those that practicing unprotected sex, what should be their message,” he said.   H e was speaking during the graduation ceremony of 17 participants of the leadership in strategic health communication at New Fairmount Hotel in Livingstone,   Mr Mtonga said this challenge as resulted into some of the children finding themselves on the other side of the situation by getting pregnant. By CHALI MULENGA in Livingstone MINISTRY of lands, environment and natural resources, permanent secretary Ing'tu Suba has said Government will not spared the people that engage in illegal timber trader as her ministry will crack the whip on them in the country.  Ms Suba said all the foreigners dealing in illegal timber business will be subsequently be deported adding the Zambian nationals will be sent to prison.  She said the Government will not leave any stones unturned as it cracks down on the illegal timber traders in the country. Ms Suba was speaking in Livingstone when some of the over 30 trucks impounded in southern province were offloading their timber at Government stores on Friday. From CHALI MULENGA in Livingstone KATOMBOLA Member of Parliament Derrick Livune has applauded Government's decisions to investment in the 1,600 megawatts Batoka hydro-power project in his constituency. Mr Livune said the Batoka hydro project will benefit Zambia and Zimbabwe would create a lot of jobs once implemented through the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA). "The Batoka North Hydro power station and Batoka South Hydro power station will generate 800 megawatts each, the Batoka North Hydro power is the one that will be on the Zambian side, in my constituency," he said. Speaking in an interview in Livingstone, he said the Batoka North Hydro power station and Batoka South Hydro power station on be in Zambia and Zimbabwean side respectively. HOTEL, Catering, Tourism & Allied Workers Union of Zambia (HCTAWUZ) general secretary Michelo Chizyuka says the charging of park entry at the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) check point to some lodges in the park in ill time as it is retrogressive to the development of the tourism sector. Mr Chizyuka said it is unfortunate that his team of negotiators that went to bargain for the salary of the workers in the park had to be charged park entry fees despite them not going for game viewing.  Speaking in an interview in Livingstone, he said the union wonders why some of these polices that do not promote tourism are encouraged to be implemented in Livingstone whose core is contributor to the town's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is tourism.
