By Chali Mulenga  Patriotic Front (PF) Akapelwa ward councillor Chileshe Sikazwe has disclosed that people in his ward should not worry about the development despite MP not gett9ing an MP.    M r Sikazwe  said the roads in his ward will be worked on as the central government has provided K18 billion for the roads in Livingstone. The Councillor said that it was disappointing in that roads in his ward despite in the main central business district, the people could put gravel on them. He said the Government has shown commitment that development would go on and the traders in his ward need a market where to trader from. He said the lack of trading space for the traders in Livingstone has contributed to the people being over crowded in the streets. “People with crime minds are taking advantage of the overcrowding in the streets of Livingstone hence they are pick pocketing,” he said. Africa public service day

By Chali Mulenga  Southern Province permanent secretary Edwin Zumbunu has said that the Zambian government has made progress in building capacity in the public service for the promoting and upholding the values and principles enshrined in the African charter. Speaking in Livingstone at the Livingstone civic centre, to mark the Africa public service day, under the theme, capacity development for implementation of the African charter on values and principles of public service and administration, towards developmental states, he said that in 2008 the government  a code of ethnics for the public service which outlines broad principles of core values and behavioural standards.  He said the code calls for a high level of the ethical conduct by public service employees in order to enhance public confidence in the public service. Lubinda pledges Government supports

By Chali Mulenga Foreign affairs and tourism minister Given Lubinda has pledged that the Government will now fully participate in the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) preparations through its various Government departments in Livingstone district.  Speaking in Livingstone on Friday when he addressed UNWTO  task force for the development of Livingstone at Livingstone civic centre. The minister explained that there is zeal from the top leadership of the country to ensure that the UNWTO is successful event. By  Chali Mulenga Livingstone media personnel were on friday awarded for their wok in the city of Livingstone for their work. The first ever media awards for journalists in Livingstone where hosted by Shinaika Magazine at Courtyard hotel.  Livingstone museum director Vincent Katenekwa said most of the great things start on a humble note and that it is something that can grow.  He urged the journalists most of whom he said were quite youthful and could contribute to national development. “Let it grow the zeal for the media interest to write as it is only that the journalists can progress in the writing industry,” he said.   Provincial art advisory chairperson Ziwa Malilo Ziwa said the media should accommodate critics and urged the media to be innovative and work extra hard.  He pledged the support of that national arts council towards the support to the media.  Shinaika Magazine executive Director said the media does a lot work that is not n...

CBR-media key to disability awareness

By Chali Mulenga Community based rehabilitation (CBR) programme advisor in Zambia Alick Nyirenda has praised the media in Zambia for bring out issues on disability to the fore. Mr Nyirenda said the media is helping to influence the people living with disability to out in the open about disability and that the increased media coverage on disability has contribute to people being conscious of disability.  Speaking in an interview with the times on the side lines of the stakeholders sensitisation meeting in Livingstone, he said people now the importance of bring out their disability as they would be able to get help. “The true faces of people living with disability are news items now a thing that never used to happen often,” he said. K30 billion for Livingstone transformation

By Chali Mulenga THE Ministry of Tourism in south-western regional has revealed that the K30 billion allocated for the 2013 United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly is not meant for the event but it is meant for the transformation of the Livingstone as the tourism capital of Zambia. Tourism development co-coordinator in the ministry for the south-western regional Harold Mweene speking in an interview in Livingstone, he said the money has been set side for the transformation of Livingstone into a tourist destination and resort-city. Mr Mweene said President Sata is determined to make Livingstone a tourism capital that will bring investment into the country, hence the upgrading of the city to a tourism capital. “The K30 billion in question was given to the ministry for the face-lifting and transformation of Livingstone into a tourist destination and resort-city as it was planned for in the 2012 budget before the issue of the UNWTO came in,” ...

Sun hotel wins kudos

by Chali Mulenga  SOUTHERN province permanent secretary Edwin Zumbunu has for improvement of educational establishments in Livingstone to enhance the quality of education standards in the city. Mr Zumbunu said the current state of educational establishments within Livingstone left much to be desired. He said this in Livingstone yesterday in a speech read for him by Livingstone district administrative officer Harriet Kawina during a handover of newly built Nakatindi Community School ablution block, The ablution block was constructed by Sun International Zambia at a cost of US$ 36, 500. Sun International Zambia also handed gardens to Maramba Old People’s Home as well as sewing machines to Livingstone based women clubs at a cost of US$ 16, 000.
