SOUTHERN province permanent secretary Edwin Zumbunu has for
improvement of educational establishments in Livingstone to enhance
the quality of education standards in the city.
Mr Zumbunu said the current state of educational establishments within
Livingstone left much to be desired.
He said this in Livingstone yesterday in a speech read for him by
Livingstone district administrative officer Harriet Kawina during a
handover of newly built Nakatindi Community School ablution block,
The ablution block was constructed by Sun International Zambia at a
cost of US$ 36, 500.
Sun International Zambia also handed gardens to Maramba Old People’s
Home as well as sewing machines to Livingstone based women clubs at a
cost of US$ 16, 000.
Mr Zumbunu said that Government appreciated organisations like Sun
International Zambia and Elan Group in supplement efforts of reducing
poverty and unemployment in the country.
He said Sun International Zambia had demonstrated that it valued
education as one of the fundamentals of society and a basic human
right.
Mr Zumbunu said ablution facilities were a fundamental right that
safeguards health and human dignity and that providing these
facilities in schools not only helps to meet that right.
“By sharing theses responsibilities together we can make a difference
in our Livingstone community,” he said.
Speaking at the same function, Sun hotel international Zambia general
manager Joanne Selby called on the business community to support the
local people so that they can make difference.
She said the Sun hotel is proud to be part of the community
especially the school that has improved its pass rate.
