Lubinda pledges Government supports

Foreign affairs and tourism minister Given Lubinda has pledged that
the Government will now fully participate in the United Nations World
Tourism Organization (UNWTO) preparations through its various
Government departments in Livingstone district.
Speaking in Livingstone on Friday when he addressed UNWTO task force
for the development of Livingstone at Livingstone civic centre.
The minister explained that there is zeal from the top leadership of
the country to ensure that the UNWTO is successful event.
He said the political will is there for the UNWTO but if they are no
implementers for then it would be successful.
He said that there is there He said the Government must have a huge
role to play in this matter of UNWTO preparations.
“If the Government has not been represented, it will be repented now,
the public sector will be represented by the head of departments,” he
said.
Mr Lubinda expressed displeasure at the level of government
representation towards the preparations of the UNWTO and urged the
head of department not to send people that would not make decisions
for the public sector.
He said that it was disappointing that the Government departments
were sending 4th level preparation to such important members thus this
delayed the decision making progress for the preparations.
“What the status of Livingstone being the tourist capital what it
means to their department and what kind of tourism capital would they
want to have,” the minister challenged the public sector to ask
itself.
“What kind of UNWTO general assembly are they hoping for? What role do
we have in the co hosting of the UNWTO general assembly that will
satisfy the people?” He further asked.
He also challenged the private sector to asked itself what would be
its role, that it would play in the UNWTO preparations.
And the minister urged the street vendors to reflect on whether
they are pulling down the growth of the tourism sector in Livingstone
as he had received complaints blaming the street for lack of business
at Mukuni park curio market.
He said the Government had failed to find a lasting solution to the
problem of street vendors.
Livingstone tourism association (LTA) chairperson Kinsley Lilamono
said the finance has been a challenge and the initiative has been to
make Livingstone attractive.
He said that a lot of planning had been done and that want
Livingstone to be up graded.
He said that the private sector through a committee in Livingstone
had planned what and put a strategic plan for the development of
Livingstone
