UNWTO will impact on regional tourism

 Minister of foreign affairs and Tourisms, Zambia Given Lubinda said
that the hosting of the UNWTO would have a great impact on tourism in
Africa.

Speaking, at dinner hosted by the Zambian ministry of tourism at Sun
hotel on Monday night, on the eve of the singing of the golden book
and trilateral agreement hosting agreement, which was attended by
diplomats and other high government ranking officials, he said the
meeting would give the desired boot to the growth of the tourism.
He said that not only would the two countries benefit but the region
would benefit especially the Kaza Park - African Game Reserve KAZA
(Kavango–Zambezi Transfrontier), the world's largest conservation area
straddling Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
He said that the two countries would strive to host a successful
UNWTO meeting and that this and the signing of the long awaited
agreement would signal the start of a lot of work.
“Zambia and Zimbabwe are Siamese twins, you can choose your friends
but not your brothers &sisters (relatives).
United Nations World Tourism organisation (UNWTO) secretary general
Taleb Rifai says that Africa is destined for greatness and that this
organisation will not rest until Africa occupies its place in the
sector.
He said that the Africa had not yet occupied its place in the tourism
sector despite potential.
“Africa is till to occupies its place, we cannot rest as the
continent is destined for greatness,” he said.
He said that tourism is powerful in the world as 9 percent of the work
force is provided by the sector and that it contributes to the world
trade about 30 percent.
He explained that in the next 15 months the two countries would
receive thousands of people that would want visit these great
countries.
He said that hosting of the UNWTO meeting had received a lot of
solidarity and support from the 180 member states.
He said that they are nothing more important than an idea that has
come to pass and it is now time for this idea to come to pass
“I am privileged to visit this blessed country or continent, I want to
make this the greatest general assembly,” he said.
