The Vice-President
Guy Scott‘s wife Charlotte
has commended the Patriot Front (PF) government for adopting a policy that
focuses on early child hood education.
Mrs Scott was speaking in an interview yesterday, on the
sidelines of the occasion of the handover, of the early education centre to
Maramba women’s club, at Maramba community centre in Livingstone.
The vice president’s wife said that the new policy on early
childhood education is very important in the country as it focuses on the young
learners.
Mrs Scott said that it
is that it sad that most of the infrastructure has been run down in the country
where early child hood education should take place.
She said there is need
to rehabilitate the infrastructure of most of these centres that had not been
worked on.
“The classroom is being repainted and it looks very
beautiful, as you can see I have some black paint on my hands as I was painting
the black board,” she said.
“We brought some women from the private sector, we have come
to do some work in the community,” she said
Mrs Scott called on the community to do a bit before the
corporate world could also do something as people at every level they have a
role that can do.
She explained that the
Government and private sector partnership are very important in the community.
Mrs Scott said it is good that the women are doing something
at the community centre as they are opportunities for women at every level of
income generating activities.
Mrs Scott said that if women engage themselves in income
generating activities they would be able to buy something for their children
that they need.
“It is great to see women being involved in income generating
activities as they are planet of opportunities that can give the women positive
rewards,” she said
And
Standard Chartered Bank, Area head of corporate affairs, Luke Njovu
said that the partnership of the project started last year with Sun hotel
international.
He said the project would last up to 3 years
but depending on the need it might be extended to up to 10 years.
Standard Chartered Bank, Zambia managing director,
Mizinga Melu said that the bank focuses
so much on the youths and education.
She encouraged
the private sector to get involved in the projects that are in the community.
And Livingstone
district commissioner Paul Sensele in speech read on behalf by
distract administrative officer Harriet Kawina, he said that the PF
government has prioritised the importance of early education by incorporating
it in the ministry of education science and vocational training.
He said that PF government intends to provide
and facilitate early childhood centres and teachers throughout the country.
Mrs Scott is in Livingstone on a 3 days private
meeting with Standard Chartered Bank.
