Two traditional leaders in Southern Province who fall under the newly created Pemba district have commended President Michael Sata for answering to the people of that area’s plight by making Pemba a
district.

Senior Chief Moyo and Chief Hamaundu said that the people of Pemba were very happy with the President’s decision to create Pemba as a district because it has been the cry of many people in the area.

Speaking during the stakeholders meeting which was held at Christ the King Parish Hall in Pemba on Friday and Chaired by Southern Province Minister Obvious Mwaliteta and the provincial permanent secretary Edwin Zumbunu, Senior Chief Moyo said that the people of Pemba have received the creation of the district without misgivings.

“We have received this decision without any misgivings because people will start receiving developments direct from government” Chief Moyo said.

Chief Moyo said that Choma which used to be the district Boma was very far adding that Pemba was slowly becoming a ghost town.

And one of the village headmen Samuel Muuma praised President Sata to listen to the people of Pemba’s calls for the area to be declared a district.

would be built.

Mr. Mwaliteta said that the PF Government is in a hurry to take developments to the people adding that the creation of Pemba as a district was so urgent.

“It is the PF Government’s mandate to see to it that development is taken to our people” The Minister said.

Mr. Mwaliteta said that it was his hope to see southern province being full of developments in the next five years.

He said that that the province has not seen many developments despite having been receiving the Constituent Development Funds.

“This province has not seen much development despite the presence of CDF” He said.

Meanwhile, Southern Province permanent secretary Edwin Zumbunu has predicted the creation of Pemba as a district with job creation.

Mr. Zumbunu said that there will be a lot of economic activities in Pemba because many investors will be willing to establish their business in the district.
